Violence is a social problem that

affects women, men, children and also our communities as a whole.

Abuse does not discriminate; it

occurs in all types of families

regardless of family income,

education or social status.

51% of Canadian women have

survived at least one incident of

sexual or physical assault.

3/4 of reported sexually violent

offences in the Atlantic Provinces

involve children or youth.

1/4 of high school students

experience violence in their dating

relationships, with the average age of the first incident at 15.

90% of crimes committed against the

elderly by family members are

physical assaults.

It is estimated that persons with

disabilities are 1 1/2 times more likely to encounter violence against them than the population at large.

Everyone has a right to live

free of violence!
